Melasma Treatment
Melasma is a concentration of pigment in irregular patterns on the face typically and majority seen in women. It can present during pregnancy due to hormone fluctuations and can have gentic factors. Melasma is not a simple cosmetic problem to treat and can be frustrating to clients. It requires team work and the client must use prescribed products diligently and adhere to the treatment plan to see good results. Sun avoidance and blocking is a life long habit with melasma as the pigment has “memory” and can return rapidly with sun exposure. Suppression is the key, permanent removal is not usually possible.

For treating with products, melasma responds to prescription grade hydroquinone, retinoids, sunblocks and screens. For clinical procedures, melasma responds to chemical peels (performed carefully, matched to skin type) and IPL. A typical treatment plan includes a series of IPL and chemical peels, and diligent application of sunscreen and maintenance treatments. Q: What is Melasma?
A: Melasma is a common skin disorder that darkens the skin, commonly on the face. Though it can affect anyone, women with darker skin tones (especially Hispanic, Asian, Indian, and Middle Eastern) are at greatest risk. Melasma can be associated with the female hormones estrogen and progesterone. Melasma is especially common in pregnant women, women who are taking oral contraceptives, and women taking hormone replacement therapy during menopause. The use of cosmetics is associated with melasma but the relationship between the two is not understood. Sun exposure is strongly associated with melasma.
Q: What are symptoms of melasma?
A: There are no known associated symptoms for melasma.
Q: What is the appearance of melasma?

A: Radiant Medspa will diagnose melasma based upon your skin’s appearance and formulate an effective treatment plan.
