Fractional Laser
Fractional laser (or fractional photothermolysis) is a method of skin rejuvenation where treatment areas of the skin are precisely mapped out at a microscopic level, leaving some skin perfectly intact while other zones are heat treated. Fractional Laser utilizes lasers to essentially damage skin in a controlled manner. New skin grows back stronger and healthy than before. Fractional Laser’s unique ability is splitting apart the laser beam into tiny pinpoints of light. Fractional Laser renews the skin in these microscopic zones, while the surrounding untreated tissue maintains your skin’s stability. Much like pixels in digital images, tiny spots of treated skin replace old, destroyed cells with new, healthy ones; untreated areas then maintain the tissue’s stability for quicker recovery.

With this technique, fractional laser treatments utilizes intense energy, while providing safety and faster recovery time. Patients can undergo a relatively risk-free procedure, achieve desired skin rejuvenation, and not be concerned with undergoing multiple follow-up treatments, which are associated with other low-energy laser options.

Fractional Laser FAQ
How much time does a procedure take?
Fractional Laser is a quick procedure, usually no more than 30 minutes.
What do Fractional Lasers treat?
Fractional Laser is approved for dark circles under the eyes, melasma (“mask of pregnancy”), age spots, acne scars, freckles, and skin resurfacing.
Are there side effects?
Side effects are rare, but can occur, and include swelling and redness in the treatment area. There is also a very small risk of infection or scarring.
How soon can I see the results from Fractional Laser?
Improvement after Fraction Laser treatments are generally observable within 2 to 3 months. Results are long lasting but not permanent; therefore, additional treatments over time are needed to maintain results.
What is the Fractional Laser recovery time?
Unlike other advanced laser treatments, there is no recovery time with Fractional Laser; however, for the first week, your skin will probably peel and appear swollen and red. Some patients schedule a down week after fractional laser, with no public appearances.
Will I feel pain or discomfort?
Patients describe Fractional Laser Resurfacing as a “prickling” sensation. Treatments may become hot, but topical numbing ointments and air cooling alleviates most discomfort.
Can Fractional Laser be combined with other procedures?
The skin is an organ that can be manipulated, but shouldn’t be aggressively treated. With a doctor’s consultation, fractional laser resurfacing can be combined with Botox, dermal fillers, microdermabrasion, and lip augmentation.
