What is Juvederm Ultra Plus?
Juvederm Ultra Plus is a colorless hyaluronic acid gel injected into facial tissue, smoothing wrinkles and folds, especially around the nose and mouth. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring sugar found in the human body. The role of hyaluronic acid in the skin delivering nutrients, hydrating the skin by holding in water, and act as a cushioning agent. Juvederm Ulta Plus temporarily adds volume to the skin and subcutaneous tissue, providing appearance of a smoother skin surface, smoothing moderate wrinkles, to severe facial wrinkles and folds.
How does Juvederm Ultra Plus differ from other facial fillers?
Comparing to Radiesse, which is based upon hydroxylapatite, both Juvederm Ultra Plus (and Restylane) are composed of hyaluronic acid. Juvederm Ultra Plus has a higher concentration of hyaluronic acid than Restylane, providing longer results. However, Juvederm Ulta is not an appropriate facial filler for all areas. Common targets for Juvederm Ultra Plus injection are the nasolabial folds, the midface and cheek areas, as well as the lips. The choice of which filler depends on many factors. At your complementary consultation, Radiant Medspa will thoroughly explain your options, the costs, and recommend a treatment plan.
How long does Juvederm Ultra last?
Juvederm Ultra Plus lasts for approximately 9-12 months, although it is not uncommon to have a touch up-injection within a year in order to enjoy the full amount of correction that you experienced initially. These touch-up injections usually require a smaller amount of Juvederm Ultra Plus, less expensive than the original procedure.
What should I expect during and after the injection?
In order to provide you with the most comfort, a local anesthetic is applied to the treatment area. Juvederm injections are implanted intradermally, using a fine gauge needle into the treated area. Once the injection is completed, a cold pack is applied, minimizing swelling and bruising. There may be some minor swelling, usually resolved in 1-2 days. Occasionally, minor swelling and redness persists longer, but fades over time. The degree of bruising varies, as some individuals tend to bruise more easily than others. By following the pre-treatment guidelines below, you can minimize your chance of bruising.
