Med Spa vs. Day Spa: What’s the Difference?

The term “spa” is so widely used, lacking clinical definition, it can be challenging to distinguish the services and solutions offered by spa companies.  Though day spas and med spas  are both common, they are very distinct in their treatments.  Many of the Radiant Med Spa patients choose our spa for the assurance that their procedures and treatments are overseen by a train physician or medical professional. Treatments are performed by advanced estheiticians with specialized training in laser, chemical peels, IPL, and cosmecuticals

Day Spas Provide Relaxation: Getting a massage, a facial or body wrap, a manicure or pedicure is splendid.  Day spas focus upon making the patients feel better, but the skin itself does not improve.

Med Spas Provide Skin Rejuvenation: Med Spas combine clinical medicine with luxury, providing patients with medical aesthetic procedures within a relaxing, spa like environment.

A regular spa is limited to treatments that focus on relaxation and beauty. A medical spa offers the same services as a regular spa, but focusing on long-term healing and beautifying treatments, requiring a doctor’s expertise.

Avoiding Confusion

People are often confused since regular spas have tried to mimic medical spas. Some of these regular spas have even put their clients in jeopardy by offering procedures they are not qualified to perform.  Cosmetologists are limited in what they can safely do for clients, and numerous complaints have resulted from practitioners crossing the line. Laser treatments, chemical peels, injectables, and microderm abrasion are the kinds of medically-based procedures that need to be performed under a doctor’s supervision.

Feeling Great vs. Getting Better

Day spas provide a range of aesthetic solutions geared in direction of leisure, pampering, and elegance. Day spa treatments typically incorporate therapeutic massage, waxing, facials, system wraps, manicures and pedicures. Day spas are staffed by aestheticians and cosmetologists, with treatments helping their clients feel excellent and look very good in the short phrase.

Medical spas are science-centered, with results-driven treatments, such as chemical peels, laser therapies, and injectables such as Botox and dermal fillers. Under the supervision of a medical doctor,  medical spas provide skin services absent the expense, discomfort, and downtime of surgery.
