How To Choose a MedSpa

Since the term “med spa” has not been standardized, and different spas have different abilities and expertise, there is confusion about what a medspa is, and how it can help you.   Spa consumers should certainly be initially precautions when receiving medical treatments at spas. Services like botox, intravenous vitamins and bio-cell treatments are more frequently offered in medi-spas or medical spas, but could be provided in any type of spa adopting a new and catchy title. The jargon describing the different types of treatment can be confusing, yet denote different levels of care. For example, a cosmetology refers to the use of creams and products such as a hydrating mask to enhance the exterior beauty of skin. A cosmeceutical, on the other hand, are medicines that contain active pharmaceutical ingredients (API’s) that should be prescribed by licensed physicians. While the former primarily involves the outer layers of skin, the latter impacts the deeper layers.

Eight Questions to Help Choose a MedSpa

  1. How long the med spa has been in operation?
  2. What is the background on the individual who will be performing the service you are interested in?  How much experience does he/she have performing the service?
  3. How does the facility sterilize its instruments?  How often are the instruments sterilized?
  4. Is the facility directed by a physician?
  5. How modern are the lasers used at the facility?  How have the practitioners been trained, and how long have they been using that particular laser?
  6. What professional organizations is the doctor a member of?
  7. What will the proposed treatments do for me?  Although there are certainly no guarantees, what is a reasonable expectation from the outcome of the treatments?
  8. How many treatments will I need?  This is a difficult question to answer, since people respond differently.  Furthermore, the good results from one treatment may not be repeated on a second treatment. But ask the therapist what the general protocol is — how many treatments you need, how frequently, and what you need to do to maintain results.

Six Tips to Help You Connect with the Right MedSpa

  1. Think about your treatment goals beforehand.  What is bothering you, and what constitutes skin treatment success for you?
  2. Don’t focus only on the cost; rather, focus on value. Reputable med spas offer latest treatments (e.g. lasers, fillers, endermologie) at comparable prices.
  3. When you walk into a med spa, you should feel comfortable. The atmosphere should put you at ease. do you feel welcomed?
  4. Compose a list of medication conditions and medications you are under, which the medspa should know about.
  5. Ask questions and be the expert. The more questions you ask about the procedure of interest and your goals, the greater the staff’s ability becomes to provide you with the best care possible. Ask spa professionals about their experience with the treatment/procedure of your choice, how many treatments they have performed, and the expected results.
  6. Be aware that your present health or skin condition may prevent the desired outcome. Some bodies reject aesthetic treatment or have limited results. Ask the medspa about challenges for your particular skin type, and beware of medical spas offering a “cure” or “fix”.
